Bob Moose's Marine days with RUSH LIMBAUGH, etc.

Dennis W. Davies, 6/2/18: "Dave Cash and Jeff Christy (now known as Rush Limbaugh) also were in the USMC Reserves unit with them.. I was too

Fun and always laughing......one summer camp he was Duty Sgt. and I was duty driver......... after I took a Major to the Officer's Club Moose said that was it for the night.... he broke out a bottle of Gin and he and I had Gin and Tonics and just talked baseball the rest of the night

there was a bar across the street from Forbes Field at the corner..... many times I went with him and Hebner for lunch

stunned and shock [by his death]. [he was] well liked and his wife Alberta was a sweetheart"

BRUCE KISON RIP

Kison named his son Robbie after Bob Moose. Kison and Moose were friends- Moose was Kison's best man at his wedding:

Bruce was also a pallbearer at Moose's funeral (along with Jim Rooker, Tom Fox, and others):

When people ask me about Bob's death

Auto accident...on his 29th birthday, heading to a party for him being held by several teammates; tragic. His death, sadly, had a subplot to it: there were two women in his car who weren't his wife (they survived), so it added a tabloid feeling to his passing...then, the very next day, Steeler QB Terry Bradshaw was famously upended and hurt badly by Browns player Joe "Turkey" Jones, ending Bradshaw's season. Even though "only" an injury, this also overshadowed Moose's death. Both incidents (Moose's accident and Bradshaw's bad injury) happened in Ohio, as well.

Memories of Bob Moose

A nice gentleman by the name of Dennis Davies shared this on an open Facebook forum 2/4/18: "Spent time with him and Richie Hebner in Marine Reserves.. also knew him from when I worked in Pirates front office..... shared more than a few cocktails with him and Hebner... great guy and funny; down to earth guy.. was duty sergeant when I was duty driver one summer camp...... gin and tonic was the drink of choice that night.... lol... always had a story to tell;  btw, we also had a guy you may remember as Jeff Christy ( KQV) in the platoon...... you know him today as Rush Limbaugh; Moose's death was tragic and actually not so nice to repeat.. circumstances were very disturbing; I can't repeat the details of his death as I was told soon after........but needless to say it was very bad; would not be hero in today's world for sure; exactly... we were told Bob was decapitated......sad.......I met his wife a couple times before his death. Alberta ....."

Interest in Bob Moose is alive and well!

Thank you for all the interest! Bob will never be forgotten:

Franklin Regional High School best athlete ever;
one of only two major league baseball players to come from Export;
in two games in 1967 and was 1-0;
1968 Pirates rookie of the year;
came closer than any other pitcher to pitching a no-hitter at Forbes Field;
1969 no-hitter versus the eventual World Series winning Amazing Mets;
led the league in percentage in 1969;
member of the 1970 Pirates playoff team;
1971 World Series champ;
member of the 1972 Pirates playoff team with the famous wild pitch;
won at least 11 games five years in a row (1969-1973);
member of the 1974 Pirates playoff team;
member of the 1975 Pirates playoff team;
led the Pirates in saves in 1976 with 10 (also hit his only home run that year and is remembered as an above-average hitting pitcher with an excellent pick off move);
died on his 29th birthday (and rumors of infidelity, right or wrong, pervade to this day);
a member of the hometown Pirates from 1967-1976;
the second Pirate (and second "Bob") to die from that 1971 World Series team (Bob Clemente was the first; manager Danny Murtaugh died soon after Moose [12/2/76])
